Obituary

Lonnie Elbert Kilgore, Sr., age 90, passed away on February 14, 2021 in Mansfield, Texas. Lonnie was born to Elbert and Ora Groves Kilgore in Sidney, Texas on September 2, 1930.
Lonnie attended Sidney schools, leaving his senior year to join the US Navy, rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer and a veteran of the Korean War. Lonnie enjoyed telling stories of his adventures aboard his destroyer, the USS John A. Bole. After leaving the Navy, Lonnie used his experience as Boiler Room Chief to gain employment at General Motors in Arlington, Texas. After several years there, his love for home brought him back to Comanche, where he managed Gulf service stations and the Powell Supply Goodyear store until his retirement. He loved to play poker and go fishing with his children and grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Pop.”
Lonnie is survived by daughters Shirley Kimble of Watauga, Dee Ann Allen and her husband Ronnie of Mansfield, son Richard Kilgore and his wife Barbara of Trophy Club, daughters Darla Stewart of Marble Falls and Lorri Pratt of Grand Prairie; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife Debbie Sue Kilgore, wife Bettie Kilgore, son Lonnie Kilgore, Junior, grandson Kyle Kilgore and great-granddaughter Isabella Peralta, two sisters and five brothers.
