Obituary for MARY JEAN HARMON

Mary Jean Harmon, 69, went to be with the Lord on December 17, 2020.

Mary Jean Harmon (Benson) was born on November 27, 1951 to Mary Ann Benson (Cook) and Jay Benson. She was the oldest of five children. Mary lost her father at a very young age and was blessed with a loving Dad, Billy Paul (B.P.) Underwood. Mary graduated from Rising Star High School in 1969 and attended Cisco Junior College where she met the love of her life and husband of 51 years, Billy Harmon. They both stated that the first time they saw each other that they knew, “That is the one.” Mary was very proud of her career as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor working in the Texas prison system. This was a career that she completed after her children were adults. Mary was most proud of her family. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, mother, and siblings. Mary and Billy could be found most Friday and Saturday nights at Cook’s Fish Barn visiting with friends and family. Mary also enjoyed camping at Proctor Lake. Mary always had a smile on her face and was eager to hug and kiss any baby and small child in her vicinity.

Mary is preceded in death by Jay Benson and Billy Paul Underwood. She is also preceded in death by a niece, Kristi Swan, and nephew, Chris Cogburn.

Mary is survived by her husband, Billy Harmon; children, Shawnah Harmon Bass and Doug of Rising Star, Matt Harmon and Teresa of Mobeeti, and Glenda Harmon of Colorado; grandchildren Kaleb Harmon, Kendall Bass and wife Bailee, Korbin Bass, Taryn Harmon, Clint Harmon and wife Britni, Shayla Ruff and husband Keane, Jerry Harmon and wife Mindi, and Beau Harmon and wife Britni. Her great grandchildren were Kenlee, Jamison, Sarissa, Cassidy, Nathan, Emsley, Zachary, Slayde, Kamy, Lucas, and Baylor. Her mother, Mary Ann Underwood. She was also survived by her siblings Jay Benson and wife Kay, Shirley Senior and husband Joe, Judy Kirby and husband Tyree, Teresa Presler and husband Mike; a Sister in law Barbara Swan and husband Buddy and their daughter Debbie Heller. There were many more nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends that Mary kept close to her.
