Obituary for MICHAEL "MIKE" WAYNE STEPKEN

Michael Wayne “Mike” Stepken passed from his earthly life February 11, 2023, at Hendrick North Abilene with loved ones by his side. Mike was born in Dallas, Texas April 16, 1949, to Albert H “Buster” Stepken and May Belle “Turner” Stepken. Mike grew up in Denton, Texas and graduated high school there He attended college briefly prior to joining the Army during the Vietnam War era. Mike was a SP4 and helicopter crew chief. Mike married Sandra “Sandy” Craig, November 29, 1997, and they enjoyed 25 years of love and friendships.

Mike worked in the sales industry including oilfield leasing, Resistol hats, the boat and automotive industry. He retired from an automotive finance career in 2009. Mike enjoyed wood working and country living.

Mike was a Christian and faithful member of the Erath County Cowboy Church where he rededicated his life to Christ in a Lake Ceremony at Jay Mills ranch the same day his grandson, William, was baptized. After Sandy retired, they moved to a small family farm near Gustine, Texas and attended Board Baptist Church.

Mike is survived by his wife, Sandy of Gustine; brother-in-law, Rodger Craig; stepson, Jeremy Boucher and fiancé, Dedra Davidson. Mike and Sandy had 2 bonus “daughters”, Jennifer Parker of Denton and Macy Craig of Midland; grandchildren, Tristan Boucher and William Boucher of Durant, Oklahoma; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Terry Stepken.

Mike’s wishes were to be cremated. Per Mikes’s wishes, his ashes will be spread at their family farm at a later date.
