Obituary for RAY TROSPER

Ray Lynn Trosper of Sidney, Texas, passed away in Medical City Hospital in Weatherford, Texas, on Sunday, March 26, 2023.

Ray was born in Perryton, Texas, on March 22, 1948, to Corwin and Merril Trindle Trosper. He grew up on the family ranch in Higgins. He graduated from Higgins High School and played baseball and basketball there. He was active in 4-H and showed lambs in the major Texas livestock shows.

While a student at Clarendon College in Clarendon, Texas, he met Rita Reed of Sidney, Texas. They were married on August 12, 1967. Together, they had three daughters and one son.

Ray received his Bachelor of Arts in Teaching from Sam Houston State University in 1971 and his Master of Education from Tarleton State University in 1987. His first teaching job was in Channelview, Texas. He taught at Sidney, Milford, Brookesmith, Gorman, and Grand Prairie. He also was Superintendent at Bluff Dale school in Bluff Dale, Texas.

Ray loved all sports, especially the Dallas Mavericks, the Texas Rangers and the Baltimore Ravens, and was very knowledgeable about the Texas Sports Teams. He also had a love for the gas and oil industry and was always ready to discuss it with anyone who also was interested.

His children and grandchildren were the light of his life, and he was always delighted to see them and help them if help was needed.


Ray is survived by his wife, Rita, of Sidney; daughter, Renee Jones, daughter, Rachel Elrod and son-in-law, Chad Elrod, daughter Robyn and her partner, Ed Zarecky and his son, Will, all of Arlington, Texas; son, Reed Trosper and wife, Sarita Trosper, of San Antonio, Texas, and his brother, Bill Trosper and wife, Linda Trosper of Eads, Colorado. Surviving grandchildren are Jessica Jones and Ethan Ray Jones. Step-grandchildren, Jake, Catherine, Gavin, Mary Elizabeth, Evie Carmichael, Adisyn Elrod and Aubry Elrod. Also, several nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents Corwin and Merril Trosper; and son-in-law, Alan Jones.
Also, preceding him in death was his beloved black cat, Inky.
