Obituary for ROLAND GUERRA

Roland Guerra was the youngest of five sons to Romeo and Olga Guerra. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ray. Roland grew up in Dallas before moving to Proctor in the 80s.

He was known to all as a hardworking and good natured soul. To those who had the pleasure to work alongside him, Roland’s customer service and relatability was unmatched. He was a master welder, a Jack of All Trades who could fix anything. He prided himself on planning ahead and being prepared.

In life, Roland loved people and human nature. He considered himself a theorist who loved to learn from every person that walked into his life. He worked hard to care about and look out for every person he had a chance to know. He loved his children more than anything and as a father, he would try his best to make sure his children did not go without.

Roland was a fan of so many things. He would say, “Life is full of simple pleasures and cherished memories, and I don’t sacrifice them for anyone.” He loved to ride his bike, grill BBQ, play pool, watch the Dallas Cowboys, and listen to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Audioslave, AC/DC, Neil Young, Pearl Jam and many other musical artists. He enjoyed hummingbirds, wakeboarding, baking, having long curly hair like his mother’s and watching Sci-Fi and Western movies.

He will be missed by his children Dallas, Jarod and Tristan; his brothers Romeo, Robert, and Richard, his wife Carrie, and his grandson Joaquin.

Throughout his lifelong struggle with alcoholism, Roland had many periods of reflection and introspection. In recent years, he had learn to embrace and love the counseling and wisdom he has found in the programs he was in to address his drinking. When addressing his sickness he would say, “it’s like lassoing a tornado, I do the best I can.” In lieu of flowers, if you want to honor Roland’s memory please visit https://payitforwardsa.org/donate to donate to support the healing for those affected by alcoholism.
