Obituary for SHIRLEY SLACK

Shirley Ann Slack, 86, passed quietly in Round Rock, Texas on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 in her sleep.

Shirley was born on December 3, 1936 in Lawn, Texas to Howard and Ethel Moore. She was the second of four sisters: La Jean, Patricia, and Martha. She proved to be gifted in school skipping several grades before graduating from Emdale High School. She attended John Tarleton Agricultural College (now Tarleton State University) earning an Associate Degree where she excelled at archery and marksmanship.

Years later, she met the love of her life, Jim Slack. After a false start and several years, they reconnected and were married in her parents’ house on the Friday after Thanksgiving. A year later, she gave birth to the first of three children. They were James, Randi, and Janet.

Through the years, she served as a secretary in various institutions including Weakly-Watson, Auburn University, NASA, and Rockwell where she supported some of the biggest names in Aerospace as an executive assistant. When not working, she relished traditional frontier arts becoming adept at canning and the fiber arts, including needlepoint, crochet, knitting, quilting, and even weaving. She joined and remained a Presbyterian following her marriage.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Jim; her children: James, Randi, and Janet; her grandchildren: Cheyenne, Toby, Mary, Meghan, and Melanie; and her great grandchildren: Gannon and Bristol as well as her sister Martha, and close cousin Carol.

In lieu of flowers, plants, or donations, the family ask that you hug your loved ones and cherish the time you can spend with them.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 King James Version
